One Mile From the Water Changes Which Parts We Fit

Santa Monica garages carry more than cars. Bikes, boards, an EV charger and whatever the apartment has no room for all end up in there, and the door is what keeps it together.

Storage and Charging

What Else Lives in the Garage

EV charging has changed what a garage needs to do here. A charger on the wall means the garage now has a circuit that matters, cables that should not be pinched, and a door that has to close reliably over all of it. We see cables run where a closing door can catch them more often than you would expect, and it is worth having the run checked by whoever fits your charger.

The safety sensors also earn their keep in a garage used as storage. The photo eyes sit a few inches off the floor on each side of the opening, and a board, a bike wheel or a stack of boxes drifting into that beam will stop the door closing, or worse, leave it half closed while you drive away. Keeping the beam line clear is the single easiest thing you can do to make the door behave.

Questions

Santa Monica Garage Questions

My door will not close and just reverses. What should I check first?

The photo-eye sensors near the floor at each side of the opening. Make sure the lenses are clean, that nothing is sitting in the beam, and that both indicator lights are steady rather than blinking. A blinking light means they are misaligned, which a light knock is enough to cause.

I am having an EV charger fitted in the garage. Anything to watch for?

Where the cable runs and where it hangs. A charging cable draped across the opening or coiled near the door track can be caught by a closing door, which damages the cable and can knock the door off its track. Plan the mounting position so the cable never crosses the door's path.

Can the door be set to close automatically?

Yes, most current openers offer a timer-to-close, and it is genuinely useful in a garage people walk in and out of. It only works safely with functioning photo eyes, so we test those first and will not enable it on a door without them.
